I make no excuse for
showing these two iconic photographs again. It is a year since the body of Alan
Kurdi was washed up on a Turkish beach and just a few weeks since we saw the
horrific effects of war on Omran Daqneesh. Two children from many thousands. Regardless
of religion, location or the causes, children are suffering terribly and, as we
would say to any abused child, – “it is not your fault”, it is not the fault of
children that they find themselves in critical and horrific circumstances. Our
failure, as a world, to care for and show compassion to our children will not
only allow the suffering to continue but the future will inevitably be blighted
for the next generation.
