I have just spent the most fantastic weekend
in Banff. I take back all I've said about the Scots having short arms and
long pockets. (I say this as a man from Yorkshire!) Rev. John Woodside and his friends made up three bands, ‘Beyond
Boyndie’, ‘Whigmaleerie’ and the other being a combination of the two. A night
of singing, excellent foot tapping music and dance and the opportunity to talk about
the situation for some of the children in the Holy Land. The kindness and
generosity of the folk that came to the concert and ceilidh was just amazing.
£400 was raised for ACIC. All of this money will go directly to benefit
children in crisis and will certainly make such a great difference. A huge
thank you to John and Jan for their great hospitality and welcome, to
all who were there last night, for their interest and generosity and also to
all the fine musicians who gave of their time and who made it such a wonderful
evening.

Holy Cross, Fenham
Yesterday, I visited Holy Cross Church, Fenham in
Newcastle upon Tyne. My dear friend Rev. Gavin Wort and his congregation
allowed me to talk with them about the situation of the children in the Holy
Land. It was such a warm welcome and also great kindness from Holy Cross
Toddler’s Group who raised £30 for the charity. Children helping their brothers
and sisters in trouble.

The third anniversary of the crisis in Syria
Tomorrow, 15th March, is the third anniversary of the
crisis in Syria. Three years of bloodshed, three years of indescribable
suffering for Syrian children. Can we as a world not, just for once, put aside
greed, the scramble for money, power and status and use at least some of that
energy into bringing an end to the cruel suffering of these children.

Over the past few days I have talked with some of the
most fantastic people about the new charity.
Last Thursday I had a very good evening talking with
the Explorer Scouts at East Ord in Berwick upon Tweed. Such a bright,
interesting and thoughtful group of young people.
On Saturday I went to Manchester to see some of the
folk from St. Gabriel’s Church in Middleton – a great lunch and a good chat.
They have, over the past six years, been a great support for the work with the
children in the Holy Land.
Then on to see some friends in North Wales to the
lovely town of Denbigh in the shadow of the beautiful Clwydian
Hills. At St. Marcella’s Church I had the opportunity to say a few words about
the new charity.
To be able
to meet so many people who have a real interest and care for the children has
been a great experience. Thank you to all I have had the privilege of meeting
over the past few days.
