Visits today to Deheisheh refugee camp in Bethlehem. First to meet a wonderful young man with serious medical problems. It was very good to meet him and discuss with his family ways in which he can receive help. Then to see the father of a dear friend who is also suffering greatly at the moment with severe ill health. Even though he is so ill he gives a warm welcome and thanks for the visit. In the camp there is a great man who offers therapy for children by practicing as a ‘clown doctor’ and teaching drama and art. A lovely afternoon was spent talking with him and his family about how we might do some work together for children in difficulty. Much sadness here but also much hope. I was told by someone in Deheisheh “I keep a smile on the outside”.
